Searching the web in chat

Some assistants can search the web during a conversation, so their answers reflect current information rather than only what the model already knows.

Use it

Just ask a question that needs up-to-date information. If the assistant has web search enabled, it searches automatically, you’ll see a “Searching the web…” indicator while it works, and the reply includes citations to the sources it used.

Check the sources

Because web answers are cited, you can follow each citation to the original page and confirm it for yourself before you act on it.

Note

Not every assistant can search the web, it’s a capability your administrators enable per assistant. If you don’t see the searching indicator, that assistant answers from its own knowledge and any documents you’ve given it.
